Emotional First Aid for Children

For children moments of worry or frustration can escalate into a meltdown.

As a Positive Psychologist I find the human brain awesome. Faster than any supercomputer in existence in terms of complex processing it is a biological wonder. It is also tricky. We are expected to operate this amazing piece of kit without any proper instruction manual.  This is one of the reasons I love Positive Education so much. Teaching children more about how they work enables them to thrive, making the most of the many good things in their lives, and dealing more successfully with the difficult ones.

Sometimes even the most flourishing brain hits a road bump that sends it off-track. Children have much less emotional control than adults and moments of frustration and worry can easily escalate into a meltdown. In a busy classroom, that can be hard to handle. This animation shows three easy to use emotional first aid tips that will defuse the situation quickly and effectively to help a child restore balance and calm. What’s more children enjoy earning and using them for themselves.
